SUPER ORDINARY FAN

Addiction, passion, infatuation, enslavement - whatever you want to call it.
Shall I dare speak about all this in the era of American Idol? Hey, aren't we already addicted to the addicted?

Hhhhhmm-mppf.

We here at the Bruise have a thing for the tangible, i.e.VitaminWater®, just can't get enough of the shit, yea we know it's a rip-off.

Maybe *you* know the voyeristic type?
The dupable. The rabid over-zealous, the supremely devoted junkie. A friend or neighbor that joyfully subscribes to US magazine, follows every one of Paris Hilton's raunchy but delightful adventures. As a culture we seem more interested in the lives of others. We spend hours downloading, streaming, YouTubing every tidbit - so much time & energy stalking - we forget to live out our own offensive dreams and fantasies. Ingenuous dreams do come true for the Super Ordinary....just take a look below. The Bruise would like to thank those that submitted new work for this exhibit, we think it is one of our best to date.

Enjoy!

"With his own style, between the agressive and the tender, he combines the right doses of good taste and audacity, ever featured qualities in each of his creations. Works that combine different techniques used with grace without fear of mistakes. He enjoys experimenting and plays with his own designs in such an inteligent way, wich allows him, without realise himself to be a bright creature in everything he does and to be able to show through art, feelings, values and complains." _ SUSANA RUEDA

Kareem Rizk

Collage Artist
Melbourne, Australia
Male, 25 years old

Kareem has an obsession with nostalgia and looking back in time. Most of Kareem's collage imagery comes from any printed matter that is pre 1990's - mainly press cuttings and postcards. However his intention is to always reinterpret found imagery in a contemporary way and in a new context. In a sense, he is always looking backward to go forward. He is inspired by many things - childhood memories, street art, pop art, music, old advertising and anything vintage.

Kareem’s working techniques and mediums also include acrylic, oil pastel, pencil, solvent transfers and acrylic transfers. His focus is directed towards creating a feeling of nostalgia or time passed by emphasising an aged or weathered look. His works can often be vibrant with color, while others display a very refined or minimal palette. Also the colours in his work can often be muted. In this sense there is more relation to the idea of memories and faded thoughts. His working methods also extend to digital collage with a very gritty and realistic display of texture and layering.
